Network Cabling Audits

TNS engineers are experienced in completing network cabling audits, these tasks can be very complexed and care and attention is required to ensure minimal disruption of service to clients and end users.

Why have a network audit, in a busy challenging environment IT managers and technicians don’t always have records of the network infrastructure, in large networks were maybe 100’s or even 1000’s of network connections maybe in place for IT staff taking over the network it’s a daunting task not know where to start and in most cases call upon a professional organisation like TNS to carry out these tasks.

TNS are experienced in the field of network cabling audits and produce audit reports for IT staff to act upon, some of these tasks could be remedial works from re-patching network cabinets to full network health check where we provide a full detailed report of the network cabling infrastructure to ensure you can optimise network and have it running error free.

What we provide:

  • Full detailed patching schedule

  • Full cable analyser reports from Fluke DTX testers

  • Full details of damaged ports and cabling

  • Full network diagrams

Not all installation companies are equipped with the correct test equipment, TNS have been called in after IT staff have disagreements with other installation companies that are using the wrong type of test equipment like cable verifiers or continuity testers, as we are equipped with Level 4 cable analysers we can quickly assist other installers and end users to resolve issues.

Most IT staff seem to choose the cheapest installer only to find they are not qualified or have the correct equipment, network cabling is the most important part of a network it provides the central lifeline for every business, without access to the core infrastructure companies waste £1000’s of pounds in downtime and non-productivity, this can be avoided by using professional installers. You should check the installers qualifications before asking any of them to carry out work, here are some simple checks you can carry out.

  • Ask to see vocational qualifications, should have C&G 3667, BTEC or BICSI

  • Check with the manufacturer if they are approved, don’t just take their word for it

  • Ask to see calibration certificates

  • Ask which tests they are going to be carrying out

  • Check which cable they are installing, it should be LSZH not CCA/CCS/PVC

  • Ask for references from previous work carried out

  • Check the products they have installed and ensure it is what they have billed you for.

Remember not every installer that advertise on the internet is qualified, it’s no good just having manufacturer training as these are normally half day training courses the cabling industry is unregulated, but you can make a stance to ensure your network is installed correctly and use professional companies like TNS to carry out the work.
